5 Ways To Add Unique Wedding Customs To Your Special Day
By : Rose Smith
You've set your budget, you've decided on where you'll hold your ceremony and reception, and you've gotten the flowers and cake ordered. Now you'd like to know what you could do to add something distinctive, something unique, to your special day.
There are dozens of creative and inspiring ideas that are both traditional and non-traditional that will compliment your theme and your personalities. Many old-world customs can be easily adapted and changed to suit the bride and groom of today. In fact, many of today's wedding traditions are modifications of customs which began many centuries ago.
Here are a few suggestions that would add a wonderful touch to your celebrations:
1) To signify your first steps together as husband and wife, you could borrow from an Eastern European tradition of circling the altar together three times before proceeding back up the aisle for the recessional.
2) Although this is not a tradition of long standing, it is still a wonderful concept. Instead of having each bridesmaid's bouquet look the same, choose a particular flower for each bridesmaid that best suits their personality. Then have a bouquet made using that flower as the focal point. Use each of the different types of flowers that have been selected for your bridesmaids in your own bouquet to complete the circle. Take it a step further and match each groomsmens boutonnire to a bridesmaids bouquet.
3) At a Mexican reception, the guests will form a "circle" around the bride and groom in the shape of a heart. The bridal couple will then dance their first dance within the heart.
4) If you happen to have several generations of guests at your reception, have the DJ play a series of songs starting with a song from the era of the oldest generation down to the youngest. This is a wonderful way to bring back memories of days long ago and mingle them with today's
favorites.
5) Romanian customs have Lăutari (traditional musicians) providing entertainment for the guests by performing traditional Gypsy songs, magic tricks, story telling, etc. This is a wonderful tradition that you could incorporate during the wedding dinner.
